English Holi Poems

  • Happy Holi
The trees smile with their sprout
of tender leaves and blooming flowers,
Eternal nature with its transient expression.
Hails spring with ecstasy and joy!
Bewildering shades with so many tinge.
The land of beauty and greatness,
India, witnessing color of happiness and peace.
Nation come alive to enjoy the spirit
A celebration of color- Holi!
An experience of content, harmony and delight.

Holika burns amidst merriment and mirth.
Evil overpowered by love and devotion.
A festival to commemorate 'Ras Lila'-
an enduring love saga of Radha and Krishna.

Gulal - red, green, yellow and countless.
A day's canvas - a riot of colors.
Lively crowd running hither and thither,
Rainbow of colors, dashing from every nook and corner.
Disregarding their woe and despair fervent folks,
rejoicing at the marvel of colors.
A day filled with luster and gaiety,
A day to smear our dreams-
With a splash of vibrant frenzy colors.
Holi Hai! A spring of unbounded fun and frolic!!

  • Holi Blues

I am dreaming of playing with colors and gulal,
It is the Holi celebration after all.
I can't play inside my home, the carpets will get tainted,
I cant' play it in the yard, the grass and outer walls will get painted.
I thought I would go to the temple,
and enjoy the traditional Holi festivities,
Once again I am banned from playing with colors inside the temple,
I can't play the drums and sing "Holi hai" outside, as the neighbors don't like the noise.
Little disappointed, I head for the community centre,
they have the Holi celebration in the evening,
The kids perform and remind me of my cultural heritage,
I hear all the nice Holi songs and watch dances,
I enjoy Puas(sweets) and Goat meat curry as a special Holi treat,
but I still miss the colors and Gulal on my face.

As a kid, the full moon night before the Holi,
we had a big bonfire in the middle of little Indian City,
Next morning we will get up, make buckets of colored water,
No one in the neighborhood will be spared from colors,
When we ran out of the colors, mud, paint and coal tar,
would cover our faces in the cheerful spirit of Holi festival.

There was some special meaning playing Holi with girls,
this is the only day when we can get close to them with some hesitation,
the wet colors dignified their bodies,
the dry colors showed their beauty in multi colors.

After our morning session, we came home to the big feast,
All the puas, puris, pulav, meat and vegetable curries made our mouth water.
In the evenings, we wore our new kurta and pajamas,
went door to door, played gulal with young and old,
everyone offered their best sweet treats,
That was the real Holi, now it is only in my dreams.

  • Holika Dahan

Year after year
purity of fire
is challenged by evil,
appeased with offerings

A full moon looks on
as winds stoke embers,
flare flames
to a flickering dance

Right in the center
of crimson blaze
sits Holika,
Prahlad in her lap -
her arms a circle of heat

White sparks fly from her hair,
eyes smolder in fury;
her mouth sucks in air,
engulfs rice and wheat

Wood chars,
coconuts splinter,
flowers singe
smearing earth with ash.

Year after year
faith survives.
Holika burns to death.

Holi Kavitaein

  • Rango se Pyaar

Kyo mo pe rang ki maari pichkaari
Dekho Kunwarji doongi mein gaari
Bhag sakoon mein kaise mo san bhaga nahin jaat
Thadi ab dekhoon aur ko sanmuch mein aat
Bahut dinan mein haath lage ho kaise jane doon
Aaj phagwa to san ka tha peeth pakad kar loon

Jab phagun rang jhamkte hon
Tab dekh baharein holi ki.
Jab daf ke shor khadke hon
Tab dekh baharein holi ki
Pariyon ke rang damkte hon
Tab dekh baharein holi ki.

Basant khelein ishq ki aa pyara
Tumhin mein chand mein hoon jyon sitara
Jeevan ke houzkhana mein rang madan bhar
So rom rom charkiya laye dhara
Nabi sade basant khelia kutub shah
Rangeela ho riha tirlok saara

Le abeer aur argaza bhar kar rumal
Chidkte hein aur udate hein gulal
Jyon jhadi har soo hai pichkaari ki dhaar
Doudti hein narian bijki ki saar

Gulzar khile hon pariyon ke
Aur majlis ki tyari ho
Kapdon par rang ke cheeton se
Khushrang ajab gulkari ho

  • Holi

Holi aati yaad dilati
Pichli kitni Holi

Vo bachpen vali Holi
Vo gubbaro ki Holi

Vo sakhiyo wali Holi
Vo gujiyo wali Holi

Vo thumko wali holi
Holi aati yaad….

Har Holi albeli hoti
Holi aati hume batati
jane kitne raj dikhati
Holi aati rang lagati

Holi aati gale lagati
Aakar sab ko nahelaati

Tun mun ka vo mail hatati
Holi aati yaad dilati
Pichli kitni Holi

Holi aati yaad dilati
Rango se tann mann sahlati
Bheege bheege geet sunati
Pichkaari se rang barsaati

Holi aati yaad dilati
Bhabhi, saali se rang dalwaati..

Holi aati yaad dilati
Pichli kitni Holi

  • Rangon ki Holi
Doston, is parv mein phailey hai rang saarey
Pichkari sang khelo Holi, ya ley aao gubarey
Choti Choti baatein hai, choti choti khushiya
Tum bhi jara haslo aaj, jab hasti yeh duniya
Na bura socho kisika, na rakho kisi se irshya
Karo kuch aisa, ki lage rang lai hai shiksha

  • Holi Hai
Dil ne ek baar aur humaara kehna maana hai,
Is holi pe phir useh rangne jaana hai.

Har saal khareeden hain rang, kari hai tayaari,
Is baar to khelenaa humaare saath, dekhnaa raah humaari.

Shahar mein sabse pooch rahe hain , rang-e-mohabbat kahaan milega
Raat ko khuda ne bataaya ki abhi aur imtehaanon se guzarnaa parega

Neela, hara , peela , gulaabi yeh sab to ek bahaana hai,
Holi ka ho din ya kuch aur hume to tumse milne aana hai

Is Holi pe useh rangne jaana hai,
Is Holi pe useh rangne jaana hai
